This workshop is a continuation of the previous process and opens the next level of practice. New atudents are welcome on board. Introduction classes are added.
This time we are working inside a theatre environment. We have access to a stage, a rehearsal space, and a workshop area. This shifts the quality of presence, depth of work, and perception of the body in space. We move beyond the studio format and begin to work with the body as a living scenic phenomenon.
For me, Butoh is not a technique but a state. We are fascinated by the ocean, sunsets, wind, and natural processes not because they try to be beautiful, but because they simply exist. We intuitively sense that they are moved by forces beyond human intention. This quality of being guided by something other is at the core of Butoh. When the body stops performing and starts manifesting, true depth of presence emerges.
During this workshop we will work with fundamental physical training and core Butoh principles, as well as advanced techniques focused on inner impulse, energetic structure of movement, and stage awareness.
An important part of the process will be the creation of performative material. Participants will have the opportunity to work not only with the body, but also with space, light, sound, costume, and other artistic elements. I will be accompanied by collaborators from different disciplines including lighting design, sound, and visual and stage practices.
The workshop is structured in modular layers. Each participant can enter the process at the level that corresponds to their current stage. For some this will be an in-depth introduction and physical foundation. For others it will be advanced practice and technique development. For others it will be the creation of a scenic work and presentation to an audience. All of these levels coexist within one shared artistic space and process.
This format is designed for those who are ready to work deeper, more attentively, and more honestly with the body, presence, and scenic time.
